Trolltunga, located in Vestland in South-West Norway, is a rocky cliff that hangs picturesquely over Lake Ringedalsvatnet.
This amazing rock is part of a mountain range and is a rock formation that dates back to the Ice Age over 10,000 years ago! The iconic Trolltunga siren over the beautiful lake below was formed by glacial erosion. When a large part of the mountain was broken off by the movement of the glacier, it left behind the unique Trolltungen mountain that we see today.
Starting on the Trolltunga trail, expect a 28 km (approx. 17 mi) hike with an ascent of 800 m (2,600 ft). The trip from Skjeggedal usually takes 8 to 12 hours, depending on the speed. A hike on the Trolltunga Cliffs requires good physical fitness and suitable hiking equipment. The road on the side of the mountain is bumpy and rocky. In wet or snowy areas the ground can become slippery.
